Research Day
Research Day
Sinai Grace Hospital conducts an annual Research Day event every year in the month of May or June in collaboration with the other ACGME and American Osteopathic Association (AOA) sponsored residency programs in the hospital. The Research Day is a multidisciplinary event that seeks to highlight the academic and the scholarly activities achievements of all the departments’ medical trainees such as medical students, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, and residents from various specialties. The planning committee mainly consists of faculty and administrative staff from the Internal Medicine Residency Program. The Research Day constitutes a forum where trainees are invited to participate and showcase their research and quality improvement projects in the form of oral or poster presentations. For eligibility, all trainees are asked to submit their abstracts to the Director of Clinical Research at the Department of Medicine, and a blind review process by the Research Committee starts afterward, upon which abstracts get selected for either oral or poster presentation based on scoring rubrics used by the ACP. One week before the Research Day, abstracts will be sent for review to a panel of judges from various departments at SGH and Wayne State University, and each judge will be assigned several posters to judge and give a score on the day of the event. Scores will then be entered into an excel sheet in real-time and final scores will be released at the end of presentations.
Trainees with the highest scores receive awards for the following categories:
• Oral Case Report
• Oral Research/CQI
• Poster Case Report
• Poster Research/CQI
For each category, there are three monetary prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3d place.
Every year, the Research Day planning committee sets a biomedical theme for the event that tackles both basic science research and clinical research. For this, Research Day features two renowned keynote speakers who would share their academic and scholarly experience with the trainees in a way to highlight the importance of research and to provide an update on what being done in their respective fields.
