Transitional Medicine Curriculum

PGY I – Transitional Year

During the Transitional year, residents apply the knowledge acquired during medical school through rotations on the general medicine floor. Emergency medicine and critical care rotations provide in-depth exposure to acutely ill patients. During each floor rotation, residents function as a team, consisting of two PGY I's and one PGY II or III and a teaching faculty member. Teaching and patient care rounds are conducted daily. Attending staff is available 24-hours-a-day.

The following chart indicates the required duration of each service. Every rotation is a one-month block:

Rotation Length of One Rotation Number of Rotations
General Medical Floor 4 weeks 3
Night Float 4 weeks 1
Medical ICU 4 weeks 1
General Surgery 4 weeks 1
Ambulatory Clinic 4 weeks 1
